Title: My Thoughts
Comments: Here is my two cents worth: I feel that this issue is more a matter of morality than legality. I believe that we will be judged in heaven for our obedience to both the letter of the law and the spirit of the law, which in this case is D&C section 89 and other sources received through revelation. I believe that a violation of either the spirit or letter of the law will lead us to lose the presence of the Holy Spirit, a condition we are to avoid. To put it in perspective, I liken drugs to pornography; we are commanded to avoid pornography in all forms as if it were the plague, for it truly is a spiritually wasting disease. Pornography is defined as anything that causes s-xual excitement, and we know that such excitement is a sin outside the bounds of a lawfully wedded husband and wife. It has been explained to me by my priesthood leaders that the viewing of a person wearing immodest or revealing attire, such as a skimpy bathing suit or lingerie, is as much a violation of the Law of Chastity as viewing someone who is completely unclothed. To me, marijuana is like viewing the individual who is sexually exciting due to a lack of clothing, and hard drugs are analogous to a fully unclothed individual. All are violations of God's laws, and an individual who fails to follow such commandments will be accountable to Him for such failure.
